Retreats for Therapists

As well as offering intensive individual retreats for therapists who want their own EMDR, we also run small group retreats for therapists needing some time out with each other to reflect on self-care, relaxation and mindfulness, group support, exercise - and art in the woods with local artist, Dawn Reader.  Please do have a look at Dawn's amazing work here: https://dawnreader.com/  There will be time for spiritual reflection if this appeals to you, as well as the opportunity to book some individual time during the down time. The focus is on having the opportunity to unwind, and to share together in a confidential and safe environment.  Meals will be together, or can be taken in private.  Accommodation is on site in one of several airbnbs available in the village within walking distance of each other, or in the lovely village pub, which will be booked exclusively for meals together (as well as meals at the main site).  Groups and activities will run from the largest property.

Upon arrival on Friday afternoon we will all gather together for afternoon tea, before getting to know each other in the first of several led group sessions.  Dinner will be pre-arranged at the local village pub.  Saturday will include an exercise programme outside led by Charles, various group discussions including mindfulness and relaxation, and an art workshop in the woods (weather permitting) led by our resident local artist. There will be a BBQ in the evening together (we have a bell tent outside for the exercise programme and the BBQ should we need it).  Sunday morning will be more groups and exercise with the retreat concluding with Sunday lunch at the village pub before we all depart.

We have certain different amenities on offer depending on which cottage you book into.  We have wild swimming included in the beautiful ponds at one site within gorgeous grounds to wander around, and an indoor pool and gym at our other site.  At the main property where our groups will be based there are stunning bedrooms and huge bathrooms overlooking the gardens.  There is also a stunning shepherds hut with a hot tub, overlooking a stream, with access to the wild swimming, and a luxury yurt to choose from.

These retreats are run a couple of times a year in small groups of up to 12. Please contact us via the Contact page if you're interested and would like more information, or to put your name down for the next available date.

Beverley Hutton

Beverley has an MA in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and is a Europe Accredited EMDR Practitioner.

She has 7 years experience running a TC in Reading for complex mental health issues, prior to which she worked in NHS management before doing her clinical training.

She has a passion for intensive residential EMDR, which was why she moved to Somerset.  Since moving here and discovering a much more relaxed pace of life, and the scope of the faciilities available in this beautiful rural village, she began to think about how the intensive programme could also be developed to support other therapists needing time to unwind and recharge.  This has felt particularly important for those working in private practice, and for those for whom work has changed dramatically since COVID and have found their practice is now predominantly on-line, which can be particularly isolating.

Charles French

Charles is a Psychodynamic Counsellor and EMDR Therapist.  He works in Reading, where he also pastors a small church.  He previously served in the South African army, has been a keen rugby player for years, and now a Cross Fit fanatic in his old age!

He worked alongside Beverley as part of the team running the TC in Reading for Still the Hunger for several years, and also worked on a male ward of a local medium secure psychiatric hospital.  He is now full time in private practice working for Still the Hunger.

Together with Beverley he has a shared interest in bringing all this together to provide retreats for therapists who need time out.  He is able to offer pastoral support within a confidential setting, or take those mad enough to join him on some fast paced fitness regime!
